Check the underside of a lifted paver for the Bufftech mold stamp and a two-digit date code (e.g., “22” for 2022 production). The edge restraint system matters too: Bufftech’s older aluminum L-channel (pre-2019) corrodes faster in Mission Viejo’s coastal-influenced climate than the current PVC snap-edge system.

Where DIY goes wrong: resetting pavers without regrading the bedding course guarantees the same failure in six months. Compacting the base properly requires a plate compactor and the eye to read grade - a 1% slope away from the garage is standard, but Mission Viejo’s lots vary, and getting it wrong means water toward the foundation. Edge restraint installation looks simple until you’re trying to drive spikes through decomposed granite at the right setback without blowing out the paver edge.
