Which PGT Models This Applies To

EnergyVue uses an EV prefix. If the label has worn off, measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest 1/8 inch, then the overall frame depth from interior stop to exterior fin. PGT’s sizing is not interchangeable with Andersen or Milgard; a 36-by-60 WinGuard sash will not seat in a ClassicVue frame even when the rough opening matches.

For hardware specifically - locks, balances, rollers, and weatherstrip - we source OEM PGT parts through their Florida distribution network, with typical lead times of 3-5 business days for items not on our truck. Aftermarket equivalents exist for balances and rollers, but we do not use them on WinGuard impact units; the load ratings differ, and the warranty implications aren’t worth the savings on a product rated for 170 mph wind pressure.

Signs Your PGT Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash drops or won’t stay open. The coil balance or block-and-tackle system has lost tension. In Mission Viejo’s dry summers, the lubricant dries and the spring fatigues faster than PGT’s 10-year rating suggests - we see this at 6-8 years on south-facing elevations.
• Condensation between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed, allowing moist air into the gap. Once the desiccant saturates, the fogging becomes permanent and the Low-E coating begins to degrade, reducing the unit’s thermal performance by roughly 30 percent.

• Exterior noise increase or draft near the sill. The pile weatherstrip has compressed or the sill track has debris wear. On sliding doors, this often tracks with sand infiltration from patio traffic - the abrasive accelerates track wear beyond normal.
• Cracked or yellowing impact laminate. Exclusive to WinGuard: the laminated interlayer turns hazy or develops spider cracks after prolonged UV exposure. This is a safety issue, not cosmetic - the impact rating is void once the laminate separates from the glass.

DIY or Call Us?
