Cambria Home Additions & ADU: The Mission Viejo Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambria-compatible surfaces for home additions and ADU projects in Mission Viejo, with typical installed pricing from $45,000 to $130,000 for full additions and $90,000 to $220,000 for detached ADUs. Most Cambria slab selections are available within 2-3 weeks from order, and we templating and install on a fixed schedule, not a floating one. Homeowners usually discover their Cambria surface needs attention when hairline cracks appear at sink cutouts, seams lift in high-heat exposures, or the original installer used a non-Cambria-approved substrate that voided the warranty.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s quartz surfaces for residential construction fall into three collections relevant to Mission Viejo additions and ADUs: the Classic Collection (1.2 cm and 2 cm slabs, typically used for bathroom vanities and laundry surfaces), the Jewel Collection (2 cm and 3 cm, specified for kitchen islands and wet bars), and the Marble Collection (3 cm only, often requested for ADU kitchens where the owner wants a higher-end rental finish). The part number you’re looking for is printed on a sticker on the slab’s non-polished edge, formatted as a six-digit code followed by a thickness designation, 12, 20, or 30.

Identifying the right slab means matching that code to Cambria’s current production run, not just the color name. Colors get reformulated. We cross-reference against Cambria’s 2024-2025 production index before we quote, because ordering “Bellingham” from 2019 and receiving 2024’s batch can mean a visible shift in veining. For OEM-versus-aftermarket, Cambria does not license third-party quartz manufacturers, so “Cambria-compatible” means a surface that meets or exceeds the 93% quartz content and the Mohs 7 hardness rating, not a knockoff brand. Silestone and Caesarstone are the two we quote against when a customer wants comparison numbers, and we stock sample boards for both in our Mission Viejo office.

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
  • Hairline cracks radiating from sink or cooktop cutouts. These start at stress concentrators where the original fabricator used a tight internal radius or failed to relieve the corner. In Mission Viejo’s inland heat, thermal cycling expands the substrate at a different rate than the quartz, and the crack propagates. We see this most often in Casta del Sol additions where the ADU kitchen was added without upgrading the cabinet box below.
  • Seam separation or lippage at joints. Cambria slabs move as the structure settles, especially on hillside grades common in Painted Trails and the canyon-adjacent parts of Mission Viejo. If the installer used a rigid epoxy instead of a color-matched flexible adhesive, the seam opens. The fix is re-cutting the seam with a diamond blade, not just re-gluing the gap.
  • Surface dulling or etching in a pattern that matches daily use. True Cambria quartz is non-porous and resists etching from lemon juice, wine, or cleaners. If you’re seeing dull spots, the surface is either not Cambria (some fabricators substitute without documentation) or the polish layer has been compromised by an abrasive cleaner or a heat event above 300°F. We document this with a photo record before we quote replacement.
  • Water infiltration at the backsplash-to-counter joint. The silicone bead fails, water gets behind the slab, and the MDF or particleboard substrate swells. In Mission Viejo’s dry climate this takes longer to manifest than at the coast, but once it starts, the substrate delaminates and the slab loses support. The repair requires removing the affected section, replacing the substrate with exterior-grade plywood, and re-installing.
  • Chipping at exposed edges, especially on 1.2 cm slabs. Thinner material specified to save cost in a rental ADU kitchen can’t take the impact of a cast-iron pan or a dropped bottle. Edge buildup with a matching strip helps, but if the chip is through the color layer, the slab needs replacement. We keep 2 cm minimum for all ADU kitchens we quote in Mission Viejo.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Cambria surface replacement in a Mission Viejo home addition or ADU, installed pricing runs $2,000 to $6,500 for countertops and vanities, and $45,000 to $130,000 for complete room additions including cabinetry, rough-in, and finish. What drives the range: slab thickness (3 cm costs roughly 40% more than 2 cm for the material, but fabricates cleaner at edges), edge profile complexity (a standard eased edge is included; ogee or waterfall returns add labor), and whether we’re matching existing Cambria in an adjacent space, which may require sourcing from a specific production lot.

Every quote we write itemizes slab cost, fabrication, templating, installation, and disposal of the old surface. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is the price. If we open the wall and find water damage behind the backsplash, we document it with photos, write a change order with a fixed number, and no work proceeds until it’s signed. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers installation defects; Cambria’s own limited lifetime warranty covers material defects, which we register on the customer’s behalf.

What you can safely check: confirm the slab code against Cambria’s website to verify authenticity, inspect the cabinet substrate for softness or swelling with a screwdriver handle, and measure the exposed edge thickness to know if you have 1.2, 2, or 3 cm material. What goes wrong fast: templating a replacement without accounting for wall bow or cabinet level, cutting quartz dry (silica dust is a genuine respiratory hazard, and wet-cutting without containment ruins flooring), and attempting to carry a 2 cm slab, which runs 20-25 pounds per square foot. A 36-inch vanity top weighs north of 150 pounds. The lumber yard doesn’t give refunds, and neither does the ER.

We bring a wet saw with vacuum containment, a digital templating system that feeds directly to our fabricator in Anaheim, and a crew that has handled Cambria’s full product line since 2012. Call (657) 297-4635 to schedule your free estimate. We’ll measure twice, then measure again.
